The World’s Best Restaurants list covers the parts Michelin doesn’t reach giving a more comprehensive guide to the most delicious destinations on the planet…

Globe-trotting gourmands may prefer the World’s 50 Best Restaurants as a to-do list, as opposed to Michelin guides due to the broader scope to travel.

While the World’s 50 Best Restaurants (actually 100) span the globe, Michelin is primarily focused on Japan and France, which boast 27 and three-Michelin-starred restaurants respectively. This is good news if you live in either location, but if you prefer to eat your way around all the continents, then the World’s 50 Best is your hot ticket. Not only does it give largely reliable recommendations for interesting dining experiences, it also puts exciting cities on traveller’s radars, their booming food scene a solid indicator of up-and-coming culturally rich hot spots.

While Michelin bosses have started talking about producing a guide in places like Dubai, the World’s Best Restaurants judges are already there. In total, Michelin’s coveted trois étoiles have been bestowed on restaurants in 15 countries, while the World’s Best Restaurants list romps through almost double the destinations with venues in 28 countries.

So, where to go next? According to the World’s Best Restaurants judges, the USA is the tastiest country on the planet with 15 entries, followed by Spain and France, which both have 10. Click here to see the full list.

The top three tastiest countries as ranked by the Michelin Guide is similar, with the exception of Japan leading the way; France takes second place, and America takes third.

Scroll down for a full breakdown of the destinations covered by both the World’s 50 Best and the Michelin Guides.

Either way you sway, North America, Spain, France and Japan should be at the top of any serious foodie’s to-do list.
